Carl Webb Townsend, small son of Mrs. Carl Townsend, B.S.U. secretary, Ridgecrest Baptist as sembly, is recovering from an ap pendectomy at Mission hospital in Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Cuthrell and daughter, Claudia of Goldsboro, N. C., are at their cottage “The Chatterbox” for the summer. Mrs. Sidney Morris, Daytona Beach, Fla., is spending her va cation with Mrs. Grace Thomp son. J. R. Harrell of the internal revenue department, Louisville, Ky., visited his father, J. H. Har rell, last week. Mr. and Mrs. George Allred re port the sailing of their son, Sgt. Theodore Allred of the signal air corps, from Hamilton field in Cali fornia to Japan. Mrs. Allred and their little girl are with her peo ple in Travelers Rest, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Kale at Brown Bungalow, Park Place, have as their guests this week J. H. Waugh of Burlington, the brother of Mrs. Kale. Mrs. Charles Kale of Asheville, Mrs. Walter Kale and daughters, Sally and Naomi of Gastonia, were also guests Monday for dinner. Bob Jones, a veteran of World War I, after spending several months at Oteen Veterans hos pital continues ill at his home here. Miss Mary Speight has as her guest for several weeks Miss Josephine Pote of New York City. Sgt. Tommy McFalls of the army air home force is visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Watson while on leave before sailing for Ger many to be with the United States army occupation forces there. Mrs. Justin McSweeney gave a buffet luncheon at her home last Wednesday in honor of Mrs. Julia Phillips of Black Mountain and Lakeland, Fla. Other friends at tending were Mrs. R. T. Greene, Mrs. J. RETURN FROM WEST Mrs. Isabelle Rogers, who is spending the summer at her home in Montreat, has recently returned from Hollywood, Cal., where she visited her son, Major Wiley M. Rogers, Jr. While in Hollywood Mrs. Rogers visited Warner Bros, studios and a radio broadcasting station. LEMON GUEST Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Leemon had as their guest Mrs. Caroline Hill of Greenville, S. C. Mrs. Hill was formerly a field representative for the American Red Cross, operating out of the Southeastern area, Atlanta, Ga. During the war she worked a great deal in that chapter. Mrs. Richard Oulahan enter tained Mrs. Leemon and her guest, Mrs. Hill to tea at the Manor in Asheville, last Tuesday. EDITOR ON VISIT Dr. R. H. Miller, editor of the CHRISTIAN EVANGELIST, St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Miller and their daughter, who is a librarian in Washington, D.
